Electrical Inspections
Electrical installations deteriorate over time, as age and use take their toll. Consequently, the importance of regular electrical inspection and testing cannot be overstated, which is why Sparks Electrical provides professional electrical services to help maintain safety standards.

What is an electrical inspection?
Carried out by a fully-qualified local electrician, our electrical services include Electrical Condition Reports (formerly Periodic Inspection Reports) as well as Portable Appliance Testing (commonly referred to as PAT Testing). The electrical inspection on your property or commercial building will:
-
Reveal if any of your electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded
-
Find any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards
-
Identify any defective electrical work
-
Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding
You will then receive an Electrical Condition Report to highlight areas of compliance and non-compliance. Further assistance is available if you would like to discuss your report further to ensure you fully understand the outcome and your options.
How often should electrical inspection and testing be carried out?
Inspection and testing should be carried out every:
-
10 years for an owner-occupied home
-
5 years for a rented home
-
3 years for a caravan
-
1 year for a swimming pool
Periodic inspections should also be carried out in certain cases; for example, when a property is being prepared for letting or when buying or selling a property.

PAT Testing
PAT Testing is a legal requirement for commercial premises – ensuring as an employer you are fulfilling your duty of care to your employees, by providing a safe working environment.
PAT Testing ensures the safety of appliances such as:
-
Office equipment including computers & photocopiers
-
Fans & heaters
-
Lamps & other lighting
-
Kitchen appliances including kettles, toasters & fridge-freezers
-
Industrial appliances including hand drills & power tools
You can find out more information about PAT testing in this article by HSE, which answers all of the most frequently asked questions.
